Summer 1612-1616

Being raised in the shadow of his brother, the perfect Prince Charles who tragically died before he was even born, Prince Jean Gaston de Croy became an introverted boy.Having to listen the same stories all around the Royal Court about how charming, intelligent and charismatic his brother used to be didn't help either. So Jean Gaston simply chose to ignore everyone and spend most of his time alone, roaming all around the Court, from the darkest recess to the old empty dungeons.

All this time the three Princesses, Jean Gaston's older sisters(Madame Royale, Princess Angelique and Princess Cecile) followed by their friend, Zanzi, spent their time chatting, gossiping and improving their skills. In their brother's eyes the girls were born for such a life: their were beautiful, charismatic and very intelligent, never bored or exhausted from the many balls they attended.

All that the King and the Queen could do was to watch as the little Prince isolated himself even more from the outside world. They couldn't stop wondering what kind of King will he become one day.

Unaware of all the problems around her, Madame Royale, Princess Blanche de Croy continued to dream even more. She hadn't even met her betrothed, young Baron Maximilian de Valois.

Meanwhile, her father, the King, dealt will all the political arrangements regarding his daughter's wedding.

The Baron's family wasn't the richest one from France, but their reputation and name has been unblemished for centuries. An alliance with them would be the best choice now.The King continued to repeat this to himself, while at the same time hoping that his daughter will have a happy life with the one he chose for her.
