Françoise was born from a Catholic mother and a Huguenot father, but, in order to protect her, her mother had her child baptized in her own Catholic religion. Her grandfather was Agrippa d'Aubigné, a well-known Protestant General, a close friend of the old King and an epic poet, so Françoise's passion for poetry and theatre and her first marriage to Paul Scarron did not surprise anyone, even if the French poet, dramatist, and novelist was 25 years older than his wife. For nine years, she was Scarron's wife, nurse, and a fixture in his social circle.
After her husband's death, her pension wasn't paid to her anymore, so Françoise had to ask King Philip for his help.Because her grandfather had been a close friend of his father, the King felt indebted to the young widow, so he arranged for her to be accepted as Madame Royale's Lady-in-Waiting.
Even if Françoise was very grateful for the King's kindness, she languishes for her old social life and she is decided not to spend all her life in Madame Royale's service.
In 1628 she became the future King's mistress, receiving the title of   Maîtresse-en-titre the same year. Unfortunately, two years later, she died giving birth to twins, Edmond and Lydie. After her death, the children were sent to be raised by Madame Blanche.
